Not Your Average Cardio Kickboxing Class

March 19th, 2010 SCMTA No comments

Santa Cruz Muay Thai Academy isn’t your average cardio kickboxing class. Each class pushes your endurance to its limits and will whip your body into shape, but you will also gain the invaluable knowledge of the traditional techniques of Muay Thai, and the confidence to know that you can defend yourself in a real-life situation. Thai Pad training provides one of the best cardio/full body workouts around, while sparring enforces all of the techniques taught, and allows the students to apply them in friendly, controlled environment. Jason Murphy and his assistant teachers are great motivators, and are always there to help. They are incredibly patient and knowledgeable, and have helped me grow past the point that I thought I ever could. Training at SCMTA is the best athletics class I have ever taken in Santa Cruz. The first class might be challenging, but before you know it, two hours will have gone by and you’ll definitely want some more.

Workout for a novice

March 16th, 2010 SCMTA No comments

Muay Thai is new to me and I’m very much a novice. I am amazed at the pace in which I am learning though. The training is intense and the atmosphere is informal, welcoming and encouraging. I receive great feedback from both the instructors and advanced students. I haven’t been sore like this in over a decade, my cardio is improving, and I’m so appreciative. After being chained to a desk at work all day a good session at the Academy is just what I need!

Best Workout In Santa Cruz.

March 10th, 2010 SCMTA 3 comments

When I start training at Santa Cruz Muay Thai Academy I considered myself ‘fit’ but hadn’t been involved in any sport for a number of years and I didn’t realize how out of shape I was. I tried a few things but nothing really kept my attention, Muay Thai was different. Classes at SCMTA provided long, intense workouts which were designed in a way that made me demand more of myself than I would have on my own. The benefits I have gotten from the training are too numerous to list, I think training here was one of the best decisions I’ve made and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

It can be hard enough sparring against one person, but tracking and responding to multiple people requires another level of alertness. Take a look at Ricky practicing with students.

Sunday Sparring Session

November 30th, 2009 SCMTA No comments

We had guest from a gym out of the area come in a few Sundays ago to do train and spar. Adam and Brad had a great round together that we were able to catch it on video. Charlette and Steven followed it up with a round that did not disappoint.
